about the artist
"...in an attempt to illustrate the invisible, intangible,
and yet true. It is Truth made visible."
Jessica Tolu, also known as Tinto, is a Brooklyn-based visual artist. Using acrylic paint, Tinto creates images that unveil deception and reveal the truths of life. Her works center around themes of faith, spirituality, and its presence in the natural world. Pulling inspiration from the Bible, she translates its people and stories out and into the contemporary world while still preserving their sacredness. With a child-like exploration of abstraction and representation in her paintings, she mirrors the relationship between the natural and spiritual world. In each piece, Tinto marks her current position in life, her perspective on life, and the revelations she discovers about the meaning of life. She also enjoys painting old family photos and portraits of friends because...why not?
